First innings and a chase in IPL scorecards
The first innings sets a score; the chasing innings works towards a target. Always identify the innings before interpreting a team's total.
Read the team label
A scorecard may show both sides together. Check which side is currently batting and which total is completed. A prominent score is not necessarily the first-innings total, especially on a compact mobile display.

Follow the target field
In a normal unchanged match, the chasing target is one more than the opponent's completed total. Revised conditions can alter that target, so use the current official field where applicable. Do not reconstruct a revised target from a simple subtraction.
Describe the state clearly
For example, “the chase is 90/2 towards 171” conveys more than “the score is 90”. Include overs or remaining balls when relevant. This example illustrates reading a scorecard and is not a live result.
